You are probably wondering about this because you are moving into an energy-efficient home. Often, the terms 'gas-free' or 'zero on the meter' are also mentioned. These terms can sometimes cause confusion about the costs. What do they actually mean?
In cooling and heating your home, no or minimal use is made of fossil fuels such as gas. There is careful management of such polluting energy sources. We supply energy, but you are not connected to the existing gas distribution network. Instead, a completely separate central energy system has been installed. This system is located in the technical room, and energy is delivered to your home via the delivery unit. For this, you pay fixed annual costs and variable costs based on consumption.
These rates are set by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). Energy efficiency means that it has minimal impact on the climate. 'Efficient' does not refer to the costs. The advantage is that you are fully prepared for the energy transition, and this energy does not contribute to global warming.
