How does cooling work?
The system uses cold from the ground or the outside air to cool your home. Instead of warm water, cooled water flows through the pipes in your floor. This allows the system to:
- Release gentle, even cooling through the floor
- Lower the indoor temperature by a few degrees in a natural way
- Create a pleasant indoor climate without drafts
- More about using underfloor heating
Automatic switching
Each system has intelligent sensors that continuously monitor the outside temperature. In most cases, the system automatically switches between heating and cooling. When the outside temperature rises, the system switches to cooling. The exact temperature at which this happens depends on your location.
Floor cooling versus air conditioning
Cooling through the floor works differently from air conditioning:
- Cooling capacity: Lowers the room temperature by a maximum of 3–4 degrees
- Thermostat: Lowering the thermostat does not increase the cooling capacity
- Cooling time: Works gradually and needs time
- Operation: Set your thermostat to a constant temperature (just like in winter)
- Energy use: Lower energy consumption
- Sound: Quiet operation
- Tip: It remains important to keep heat out of your home.
